Letterle

The smallest word game there is. One letter of the alphabet is hidden. Guess it in as few tries as you can.

An independent fan version with its own word list. Not linked to the original game or its owners.

How do you play?

Type one letter and press Enter. If it is the hidden letter, the tile turns green and you win. If not, it turns grey and you guess again. You have up to 26 tries, one for every letter, so you will always find it in the end. The goal is to need as few as you can.

Is it just luck?

Mostly, yes, and that is the joke. With 26 letters and no clues, every guess has the same chance. On average a player needs about 13 or 14 guesses. Getting it in one try happens about once in 26 games, which makes it a fun thing to share.

Why do people play it?

  • It takes ten seconds, so it fits between other daily puzzles.
  • Results are fun to compare. A friend who got it in two will brag all day.
  • It pokes fun at how serious word games can get, and it is a nice change of pace.
  • Young children can play it while they learn the alphabet.

Is there any strategy at all?

Not really, since each letter is equally likely. Some players go in order from A to Z so they never repeat. Others pick the letters of their name first. The keyboard turns letters grey as you try them, so you can see what is left.

Is there a new letter every day?

Yes. Everyone gets the same letter on the same day, and it changes at midnight UTC. Switch to Unlimited for as many extra rounds as you like.
