How does it work?
Every word you type lands on all four boards at once. Each board has its own hidden four letter word and its own colors. A board locks when you solve it, and your later guesses only count on the boards still open. You have nine guesses to clear all four.
Green means the right letter in the right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different spot. Grey means the letter is not in the word at all.
Why are four letter boards tricky?
Short words leave fewer clues per guess, and many of them differ by one letter. A board can stall on a set like BEAR, DEAR, FEAR, GEAR, HEAR, NEAR, TEAR and WEAR. With four boards, you cannot afford to try them one by one.
What is a good plan?
- Open with three words that share no letters. That tests twelve letters across all four boards. The set below is picked from our own list.
- Solve the clearest board next. Each solved board stops taking guesses, which makes the keyboard easier to read.
- Use one guess to split traps. If a board has several words left, guess a word with as many of their different first letters as you can.
- Count down. Three openers plus four answers is seven guesses, which leaves two spare.
How is it different from the five letter four board game?
Same nine guesses, shorter words. Fewer letters per board means each guess tells you less, so planning matters more. Players who find the five letter version easy often find this one a real test.

Which words should you start with?
We ranked every word in our list of 1,469 answers by how many answers contain its letters. These 3 openers share no letters, so together they test 12 different letters: LATE, IRON, SPUD. On average they uncover 74% of an answer's letters.
The letters that show up in the most answers are E (37.4%), A (35.1%), O (26.5%), L (26.4%), T (23.1%), R (22.9%). The most common endings are LL (2.9%), RE (2.3%), ST (2.3%), CK (2.2%), NE (2%). And 18% of answers use a letter more than once.
